HOMADE | at The Social

Directed, Shot, and Edited by Caleb Marshall

On August 20th, 2024, HOMADE took the stage at The Social in Camden. The venue wasn’t enormous, but with around 150 people in the room, it filled out nicely. Like most gigs, you had the usual cycle of live music, hanging in the smoking area, and doing it all over again.

Lola, the lead singer, known as "deathrecruiter" on Instagram, commanded the stage with a confidence that was undeniable. She delivered her provocative, laid-back lyrics effortlessly, like she had nothing to prove, yet everything to say. The rest of the band backed her up well, with Suzie delivering some striking guitar solo’s that added a layer of intensity to the performance. When we first spoke, Lola surprised me by complimenting my "luxurious skin," which had me laughing.

HOMADE are a New York-based band that channels the freewheeling spirit of '60s psych rock with a sonic landscape that consists of shimmering guitar solos, high-octane vocals, and driving rhythms akin to bands such as The Doors and Jefferson Airplane. Yet, while their music taps into that classic era, HOMADE's lyrics often tackle modern themes of empowerment, feet kissing and getting off to broken hearts grounding their vintage influences in today's world.
